What does PRP skin rejuvenation do?

Platelets are cells in the blood that help tissue heal and regenerate. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), injected into specific areas of the skin, acts as a matrix to promote collagen growth and tissue regeneration, and to naturally smooth and tighten the skin. PRP softens wrinkles, creating smoother skin texture and tone.

How does PRP skin rejuvenation work?

A small amount of blood is drawn from you and placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and plasma (the clear fluid). The plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet rich plasma, or PRP. After the PRP is prepared, your doctor injects it into specific areas to rejuvenate your skin.

Who is a candidate for PRP skin rejuvenation?

Our Bellevue PRP injections work to rejuvenate your skin from the inside out. You may be a good candidate for this nonsurgical treatment if you want to improve:

  • Age spots or hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Scars
  • Poor skin texture
  • Fine lines and deeper wrinkles

What are the benefits of PRP skin rejuvenation?

PRP injections in Bellevue uses plasma from your own blood enriched by platelets to help stimulate the development of collagen and other components that help skin look younger and healthier. PRP contains growth factors and proteins called cytokines that help heal age and sun-related damage in the skin. Since PRP is a product created from your own blood, this reduces risks associated with donor genetic materials such as allergies, hypersensitivity, and other adverse reactions. Many patients are also drawn to the natural qualities of using elements of their own bodies, rather than chemicals or donated cells.

How many PRP skin rejuvenation treatments will I need?

You will notice improvement after a single PRP treatment session. For optimal results, most people need a series of two to three treatments six to eight weeks apart.

What is the recovery like after a PRP skin rejuvenation treatment?

There is very little downtime with PRP skin rejuvenation. Normal activities can be resumed the day after treatment. You may experience mild redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites. Swelling should subside within a few days, but bruising could last longer.
